My doctoral research focuses on endophytes—the microscopic fungi and bacteria that live inside plants. More specifically, I am interested in the microbiomes of the iconic baldcypress tree (Taxodium distichum) in the southeastern U.S. and how they are affected by sea level rise. I am also interested in the fungi that live inside of tropical leaves and figuring out what explains the patterns of their diversity.
